Leah Segelov
EDUCATION
Leah grew up in Sydney, Australia. She obtained her Bachelors of Applied Science in Physiotherapy (1990) from Cumberland College of Health Sciences, Sydney University, Australia. Her focus in the early years was to develop a general understanding across all rehabilitation settings. Treatment was founded on a strong manual therapy discipline which requires continuous evaluation, critical thinking and reassessment of the applied techniques to ensure desired results.
Upon moving to New York, Leah completed her Masters of Arts in Motor Learning (Movement science) (1996) at Teachers College, Columbia University, New York, NY. This higher degree developed a deeper understanding of how the brain controls movement and various factors that effect the relearning of motor tasks after injury.
EXPERIENCE
Leah has 20+ years of clinical experience. Her expertise is rooted in many years of both hospital and private practice work where high quality of patient care was priority. Emphasis is placed on ensuring a correct diagnosis, establishing realistic goals, treating the cause of the problem and making measurable progress that is meaningful to the patient. Further, Leah spends time to educate her clients to prevent re-injury.
While working in hospitals in Sydney and New York, Leah gained thorough experience in treating patients in Orthopedics (Inpatients and Outpatients), Neurological Rehabilitation, Cardio-Pulmonary Rehabilitation and Post General Surgery Recovery.
Her extensive New York private practice work involved treating a varied caseload of acute and chronic musculoskeletal and orthopedic conditions of the jaw, spine and the extremities as well as post surgical orthopedic cases and neurological conditions. Leah has developed her niche in treating temporomandibular dysfunction (TMD/TMJ disorders) and facial paralysis.
Leah is devoted to providing the highest quality care to her patients. She is an avid advocate for personal, one on one treatment time that spans an hour. She is attentive to detail, understanding, compassionate, insightful, and dedicated to help her patients return to a level of function they so desire.
